Cilantro - coriandrum sativum

Cilantro comes from the same plant as coriander. Cilantro comes from the leaves of the plant and is considered an herb. Coriander comes from the seeds and is considered a spice. Different varieties have been developed to offer larger seeds for coriander or bigger leaves for cilantro. Cilantro leaves are harvested from the plants before they go to seed.

Flavour:

A slight lemon taste with a hint of french fries.

How to Use:

A favourite with Mexican foods such as tacos and refried beans. A nice addition to creamy salad dressings, minced meat and stews and in dishes with melted cheese.

1 teaspoon per quart of stew

1 teaspoon per 2 quarts of soup

Other Info:

Cilantro and coriander have somewhat different tastes and are not necessarily suitable to be used interchangeably.
