Savoury - satureja hortensis Savoury is a great herb for those on a salt restricted diet because it provides some of the flavour-enhancing often provided by salt. Savoury blends well with many other herbs which makes it a favourite in the kitchen.
Flavour: A sweet, hot, minty taste with a touch of sourness and a faint reminder of oregano
How to Use: Beans, peas, sausages, stuffings, egg dishes, sauces, soups, meat loaf, hamburger, stews, cabbage, tomato juice.
Other info: Winter savoury (satureia montana) is an most often sold by spice dealers, it has a light flavour. It goes very well with rosemary, thyme, sage, fennel and bay leaf. Savoury is also an ingredient in the herb mixture known as Herbes de Provence. Summer savoury (satureia hortensis), has a stronger, sharper and spicier taste.
